Summative assessment tasks
- Drawing upon appropriate academic literature, please define what is meant by quantitative and qualitative research and discuss the strengths and limitations of each approach when applied in the context of health (approx. 500 words. 15% of overall mark).
- During this module you should have selected a health-related theme which is pertinent to your career/research interests. Within that theme, you should have chosen a specific topic on which to conduct your literature search. Please complete the tasks below (equivalent to 400 words. 15% of overall mark):

You now need to identify at least six primary research papers which report on this topic. In order to do this, you must conduct an advanced search using relevant EBSCO host databases via the University of Wolverhampton library search function.
Please complete the below table (Table 1) with the required information

You now need to select at least six primary articles that your search has returned. Below, please add the full reference for each article following the University of Wolverhampton Harvard Referencing style.
- Now that you have identified relevant studies, you need to complete the below table by extracting each study’s key information. You will note that Table 2 has a column with no heading, please rename this column and input the data/information that you think is the most relevant to your topic. If needed, you can add an additional column to the table, but you cannot remove one (equivalent to 450 words. 15% of overall mark).

- Synthesise the findings from your six studies. Do the findings of these studies agree or contradict with each other? Can you draw meaningful conclusions from these studies? (approx. 350 words. 15% of overall mark)
- Drawing upon appropriate literature, please compare and contrast the methodologies of the identified studies. Try to identify what the strengths and/or limitations of each study are and how they may affect our confidence in the findings. You may wish to consider the basic study design, sampling strategy, sample size, data collection procedures, statistical methods, or other confounding influences. You must demonstrate criticality in your analysis (approx. 500 words. 20% of overall mark).
- According to the previous tasks, please identify future research directions for this topic. You should include a specific research question, an overview of the research methodology most suitable to address the question, and a rationale as to why that methodology is the most suitable (approx. 300 words. 10% of overall mark)
