A jury requires the presentation of sufficient evidence to prove the accused is guilty. They want to understand how and why the crime occurred. An investigator must utilize the evidence and their deductive reasoning to explain how the crime was carried out and explain a motive for the accused to carry out the crime. One example of deductive reasoning involves explaining how the crime occurred and how the evidence proves the accused carried out the crime.
This exercise will utilize the student’s deductive reasoning to describe how someone could carry out the “perfect crime.” A perfect crime is one where the guilty party would not be caught because law enforcement could not determine who committed the crime or prove their guilt. Keep in mind, your scenario must be realistic.
Write an essay detailing how someone would commit an unlawful killing or felonious theft. The essay will be 200 – 500 words in length, use 12 font and be in chronological order. Remember must be realistic, if you describe a murder the victim must be connected to the killer in some fashion (Do NOT use an example where a random is person is killed for no discernable reason). Essay will contain the following:
- Time of day & day of week crime committed
- Describe the type of location and or area where the crime will be committed include type of lighting, possible witnesses in area, etc.
- Your alibi
- Your motive for committing the crime
- How you would obtain the necessary weapons/tools
- What is your getaway plan
- How would you enter/exit the location
- Describe exactly how you would commit the murder/theft
- For theft related crimes; you MUST detail what you plan to do with the stolen property
- BE SPECIFIC, utilize information provided from the TEXTBOOK. 200 – 500 words
Be REALISTIC, people who kill will do so for a reason, people who steal also have target certain items
