Overview
For this assignment, you will create a presentation that explores programs or initiatives that could address community-identified issues.
Scenario
Recent meetings with various community groups have identified some specific problems that are concerning to the various stakeholders in your neighborhoods:
- Rise in Homeless Population: The local business owners in the downtown area are concerned with the recent rise in the homeless population, some of whom aggressively panhandle their customers and shoplift from their stores. They state that their customers and employees do not feel safe, and they are losing business from customers who have bad experiences, and they are also losing money due to the increased theft.
- Increased Gang and Drug Activity: A parents’ organization from the local high school states that their kids are in danger at school because of increased gang and drug activity at the school and in the surrounding area before and after school. They have identified two local street gangs that are actively recruiting students at the school, and conflict between the gangs has spilled over into the school.
- Rapidly Expanding Entertainment District: A homeowner’s group in the community has expressed concern over the rapidly expanding and successful entertainment district in the city. The bars and clubs are often crowded and noisy, but more concerning is a marked increase in public intoxication, fights, and alcohol-related vehicle crashes.
You have been asked to create a presentation that discusses programs or initiatives that would address each of the three issues identified by the community groups. You will need to cover a total of six programs – two for each scenario.
