Assessment Task Description
Overview
This task consists of three parts that assess your understanding of the unit readings, your ability to reflect personally and critically, and your capacity to connect theoretical ideas with lived experiences.
Total Word Count: 2000–2500 words
(Includes all text, headings, in-text citations, captions, and direct quotes. Excludes Reference List.)
Referencing: APA 7th Edition (page numbers required in all in-text citations)
Use of Generative AI: Not permitted in this assessment.
PART 1: Synthesis
Using the unit readings from Module 1, identify and discuss the important ideas raised.
This section should go beyond summary it should demonstrate synthesis, meaning you will combine and connect ideas across multiple readings.
Your synthesis must:
- Reflect a deep understanding of ideas from the unit (e.g., curriculum, education systems, educators, learners, or learning experiences).
- Integrate at least five (5) essential readings from Module 1, covering a minimum of four (4) topics.
- Draw from the six readings provided across Modules 1–4, if relevant.
- Include APA 7th edition referencing with page numbers for all in-text citations.
Important: Failure to use five essential readings from at least four topics in Module 1 will result in an automatic fail for this assessment.
Part 2: Story
Using your synthesis from Part 1 as a foundation, write an insightful and engaging story about your personal experience of schooling.
You may choose to write:
- An autobiographical anecdote or memoir about a personal learning experience, or
- A creative narrative based on a real event you observed or experienced during your schooling.
Your story should:
- Reflect one or more key ideas identified in your synthesis.
- Demonstrate a sophisticated understanding of those ideas through narrative.
- Be written creatively and reflectively, not analytically.
- Not include in-text referencing.
Connection
After writing your story, explain how it connects to your synthesis.
This section bridges theory and experience by showing how your personal narrative aligns with ideas from the readings.
You must use APA 7th edition referencing and include page numbers in your citations.
You can use these sentence starters to guide your writing:
- “My narrative has been informed by my reading/s of…”
- “The unit’s big ideas I am showing in this narrative are…”

Submission Checklist
Before submission, ensure that:
- You have used five essential readings from at least four topics in Module 1.
- You have included page numbers in all in-text references.
- You have not used any generative AI tools to produce your submission.
- Your word count is between 2000–2500 words (excluding references).
- Your references are correctly formatted in APA 7th edition.
Assessment Overview and Key Requirements
The assessment is designed to evaluate the student’s understanding of core educational theories, ability to synthesize key readings, and skill in connecting theoretical ideas to personal learning experiences. It is divided into three main parts Synthesis, Story, and Connection each contributing to the overall objective of demonstrating a deep and reflective understanding of curriculum concepts and lived educational experiences.

- Sources: Minimum five essential readings from Module 1, covering at least four topics.
- Parts of the Task:
- Part 1 – Synthesis: Integrate and connect ideas from at least five essential readings to demonstrate understanding of curriculum, education systems, learners, and educators.
- Part 2 – Story: Write an autobiographical or creative narrative reflecting personal schooling experience, linking back to one or more ideas discussed in the synthesis.
- Part 3 – Connection: Explain how the personal story connects to the theoretical ideas, with appropriate APA citations.
