Part I
1. Review the assignment rubric and resources below.
2. Choose a manipulative/body-based therapy that is realistic to your practice. The text has many from which to choose. Make sure to choose an interesting one so that you can enjoy this assignment!
3. Search the literature to find at least two scholarly articles in which the chosen therapy has been and/or can be integrated into nursing practice. If you can narrow this to your area, great! If not, general nursing practice is acceptable, and then you can be creative in how you can integrate it into your area of practice. A minimum of TWO scholarly articles (or published peer-reviewed journal articles) is required. More are welcome. The Randall Library is available to you online and is a great resource! If you need help, feel free to reach out to the instructor. Remember, you are supporting your work with these articles, not describing or discussing the actual article/study.
4. Write a 2~3-page paper outlining your manipulative/body-based therapy of interest. Include level headings and discuss:
A. Introduction to the therapy of choice.
B. Definition of the therapy and uses in nursing practice.
C. Comparison of two types of techniques used in the chosen therapy: [Example] Massage therapy includes effleurage and aromatherapy massage, or light touch massage.
D. Discussion of how you can use these in your area of nursing practice.
E. Conclusion and references in APA 7th edition format.
I. Cite references where appropriate, avoiding quotations unless necessary.
II. All evidence should be within the last 5 years. Older evidence can be used if it is original research, but a minimum of 2 scholarly articles is required.
Part II
At this point, you know and understand how to use this therapy in practice and have a good idea of what the literature says. You have a plan for using this therapy in your practice area, so now you will determine what regulatory body you need to obtain certification from. You will use your favorite search engine to choose the path to becoming certified and integrating this into practice.
1. Search the internet to determine if there is a certification for the type of therapy you have researched. What are the education and training requirements? Are there levels of certification? If no certification, what type of training is available?
2. Create a summary chart (1/2~1 page) comparing the requirements of two training programs, or certification bodies (if applicable) offering training/certification for this therapy.
3. Write a 1/2~1-page Discussion including
A. Student opinion (written professionally) of whether considering certification is important when recommending the use of manipulative/body-based therapies for patients. Why or why not? Be specific and provide examples.
B. A brief plan of action for integrating this manipulative/body-based therapy into your practice. Will you get certified? Will you take training and develop a new skill to promote holistic nursing care? Why or why not?
Upload ONE document The paper document must include the following four components in the specified order: (1) Cover page, (2) Part I paper, (3) Reference page combining both Part I and II references as a separate page following the conclusion, and (4) Part II addendum or appendix, which is separate and placed after the reference page.
