Where each member of the team knows precisely what is expected of them, it eliminates confusion and doing the same task twice, leading to better working and more accountability. Clearly defined roles help members realize their strengths and contribute meaningfully towards the success of the team’s objectives. Effective teams are typically characterized by members being aware of their contributions and how that individual contribution relates to the team’s overall purpose (Zajac et al., 2021). This increases task management and trust among the members as each member knows their role and value in the team. Open and frequent communication is one of the techniques for creating a collaborative culture and sustaining a team. Effective communication ensures all team members are informed, involved, and able to contribute their ideas and concerns. Communication encourages feedback and trust and enables potential issues to be detected early on before they become bigger problems. Tingvold & Munkejord(2020) emphasize that communication is essential in the creation of mutual respect as well as in enabling coordination, especially across diverse teams. When there is ongoing communication, colleagues feel respected and heard and have better morale and more cooperative long-term working relationships. Lack of respect for others’ ideas and unwillingness to collaborate are two behaviors that can cause a team divide. When team members shoot down the ideas of others or refuse to listen actively, tension builds, and psychological safety erodes, suppressing input. This can be addressed with team norms favoring respectful communication and continuous feedback. Team leaders must exhibit respectful behavior and diverse opinions valued (Dowding, 2022). Disliking to work in a team, often present in individuals who prioritize success individually over the team’s success, can create conflict and isolation. This can be circumvented by developing shared goals and reinforcing teamwork through positive reinforcement and team-building activities.
