This assignment is the second part of the two-part assignment that began in Unit 2.
Curriculum Development involves a deliberate, continuous, ongoing process which begins with the institutional
mission/philosophy and proceeds through the determination of professional standards which guide the
development of curriculum, followed by the development of a nursing mission, philosophy, organizing
framework, and program objective/outcomes. To ensure curriculum integrity, nursing documents must be
consistent with both the institutional mission/philosophy and professional standards. The purpose of this
assignment is to facilitate the student’s understanding of the steps used in analyzing these documents within a
school of nursing. Each student will submit a written analysis of a nursing curriculum based on the information
and criteria outlined below. The course selected for analysis must be at the undergraduate (ADN or BSN)
level. Graduate level courses cannot be used for this analysis.
General Directions: This assignment includes using the tables completed for the Unit 2 assignment (with any
revisions required based on grading feedback) and writing a formal paper. It is recommended that you follow
the steps below in order as you complete this assignment.

  1. Use the completed tables from the Unit 2 assignment, with revisions if needed based on grading feedback,
as the foundational information for this assignment.
  2. Write a paper addressing an in-depth analysis of the congruence between the various components and a
reflection of observations and any possible recommendations. The paper should include the following
    sections:
    a. Title page
    b. Introduction
    c. Explanation of each table that describes the congruence between the various components. Include the
table within the paper for each appropriate section or in an appendix.
    d. Reflection and Analysis for each table that discusses your thoughts and ideas about what you
    described.
    e. Conclusion and Recommendations
  3. This should include the student or college/university catalog as this is where you will likely find the mission,
    philosophy, and additional foundational statements.
  4. Include appendices with all relevant original source documents.
  5. Refer to the rubric for specific guidelines.
*If you are not currently employed in an educational institution you may use materials from Galen College of
Nursing. Note that you cannot use graduate level courses for this assignment.
