MAN 4720 Assignment 

Written assignments are to be typewritten and must be your work. While I encourage collaborative learning, when you sit down to do your assignments, START WITH A BLANK PAGE AND DO YOUR WORK! 

Write a one-page case analysis. It should be 12 pt, single-spaced with 1-inch margins. Type the title of the case and your name in the header of your paper. You will post it in the Dropbox on Canvas no later than 11:59 pm on July 13th. Make sure you check your score on the ‘originality checker’ (you’ll see this on the Dropbox page where you upload your paper—it may take a few minutes). Your score must be below 30. 

The point of these case studies is to get you to use the terms and concepts from the book and recognise them in the ‘real world.’ They are written by people who are very familiar with what the chapters cover, so the ideas from the book are embedded in the cases. A good initial approach is to make notes in the margins about the terms andconceptsyou come across as you read the case and then re-read the case to look for details about how those ideas relate to the firm and its management decisions.

Then, I suggest that you first write a 3-6 page paper answering the questions. Condense it down to a single page (I won’t read more than 1 page). Remember, I will read the case—you don’t need to retell the company’s history. Just answer the questions as directly and as succinctly as possible. Remember also that you are to use only the information found in the case. 

Address the following issues in essay form: 

As in Case I, you’ve been assigned to write a detailed no-nonsense analysis for your company’s C.E.O. This time, your C.E.O. wants to thoroughly understand what makes the strategy that is being employed by a company s/he admires work well—or not. 

1. Define the industry which is described in the case in one sentence or less (you might also consider outlining a Five Forces Analysis—very briefly—to help you answer this in three sentences). Briefly(1-2 sentences) describe the industry and its Key Success Factors (a summary, not a full analysis). How well does Yeti achieve those factors? 

2. Which one of the 5 generic Competitive Strategies does Yeti employ? Describe how Yeti deploys this strategy.

3. Are there ways Yeti can modify its strategy to improve its performance? Describe them. (Don’t be afraid to use Yeti’s financial data to help answer this).

4. Would you be willing to invest your own hard-earned money into this company? Why or why not? (Don’t be afraid to reference their financial statements in answering this)
