Mental Health Nursing
Oral Presentation Guideline
· The 15-20 minute presentation is based on a specific mental disorder assigned by the clinical instructor.
· Be creative in presenting the necessary information on your topic by utilizing one or more of the following visual aids:
a) PowerPoint presentation
b) Concept map
c) Poster board
d) Handouts
· Refer to the grading rubric when preparing for your oral presentation.
· The information regarding your topic must include the following:
1) Pathophysiology of the disease
2) Etiology of the disease
3) Clinical manifestations
4) Medical management
a) Identify at least 2 types of therapy – explain the purpose of each one.
b) Identify at least three medications – include generic/brand name, classification, and action of each one.
5) Nursing Process
a) Formulate two priority nursing diagnoses – can be two actual nursing diagnoses or one actual and one risk nursing diagnoses (actual nursing diagnosis must be a 3-part statement and risk nursing diagnosis must be a 2-part statement). Nursing diagnoses must be based on the NANDA-I list 2021-2023
b) For each nursing diagnosis, develop three client goals/outcomes (must meet the SMART criteria) and five nursing interventions.
6) Client/Family teaching – identify five most significant areas that must be included when teaching the client/family about the mental disorder.
7) References – must be in APA citation style, 7th edition.
