    Due Date: Friday, 18 October, 4:00pm

    As part of this courses assessment you will be asked in the first week of lectures to begin to think about implementing one strategy in your life, for the duration of the semester, which the literature suggests may enhance a persons wellbeing. The following list (not exhaustive by any means) provides some examples of practices which at least some studies have shown to have that effect.

    physical recreation in the outdoors (e.g. walking, tramping, climbing, swimming in natural waterways, sailing, canoeing, horse-riding, cycling)

    Sport/fitness

    journal-writing

    meditation

    home gardening

    volunteering

    involvement in community organisations

    Hobby or craft

    yoga

    dance

    singing

    You will notice that some of these are personal practices (e.g., meditation); some may involve others (e.g., outdoor recreation) and yet others concern involvement in helping others either directly or indirectly (e.g., volunteering).

    It is important that BEFORE MAKING A FINAL DECISION on your choice of practice that you CONFIRM IT with Kevin Moore.

    Assessment for this project is in two parts:

    A presentation to the class (in either week 10 or 11). This involves:

    Identifying your practice;

    Outlining evidence for its effectiveness in enhancing wellbeing;

    Description of the process of implementing it in your life;

    Summary of your findings and reflections on the effectiveness of the chosen practice;

    Discussing any difficulties you may have had in implementing the practice.

    A written report (due 18 October) that:

    Introduces and backgrounds your chosen practice;

    Reviews relevant literature that relates your practice to wellbeing and helps to place it in the context of understandings of wellbeing;

    Provides a description of the way you applied it in your life, and then monitored and recorded your progress;

    Discussion and reflection on the effect of the practice, including consideration of any difficulties encountered in implementing it;

    Generally discusses and draws conclusions about the practice in relation to the literature on wellbeing.

    An overview of the production of the report and the structure of the presentation will be provided in class.
