The banking sector in the United Kingdom plays a pivotal role in the country`s economy, serving as a cornerstone for financial services and a critical driver of economic growth. Renowned for its robust infrastructure and global influence, the UK banking industry encompasses a diverse range of institutions, including retail banks, investment banks, building societies, and challenger banks. These entities cater to a wide spectrum of customers, from individual savers to multinational corporations. Key players in the sector include established names such as Barclays, HSBC, Lloyds Banking Group, and NatWest Group.

Assessment Requirement
As a Business Analyst, it is expected that you examine the Banking industry in the UK and make recommendations about the future of the sector.
This assignment requires you to produce a 10 minute video presentation on business analytics within UK’s Banking industry sector. Not only will this assessment test your presentation skills, but it will also assess how well you are able to gather data, analyse and interpret the output with supporting relevant literature.
Data gathering and Analysis
Obtain yearly data on a minimum of 10 Banks operating in the UK banking industry from FAME/Statista/IBISworld/Yahoo Finance. You should collect data on not less than five and not more than ten variables from the companies’ reports over the period from 2014 to 2023.
The video presentation should address and present the following:
- Analyse relevant journal articles on the implementation of business analytics in businesses and importance of business analytics for decision making in businesses.
- Use the dataset you have gathered on Banks operating in the UK banking industry to plot appropriate tables, graphs and develop appropriate dashboards to visualize the data.
- Compute and explain the summary statistics that describe the properties of your variables and discuss why these summary statistics are useful in the analysis of your data.
- Identify the relationship among the variables by computing the correlation and regression analysis for the variables, using appropriate software (eg spreadsheet, SPSS etc) to uncover patterns and show changes over time. (You will have to determine which of the variables should be your dependent and independent variables).
- Interpret the data output in the light of business analytics and intelligence in the Banking sector of the UK.
Word Count:
This should be 10 minutes presentation.
There will be a penalty of a deduction of 10% of the mark (after internal moderation) for work exceeding the time limit by 10% or more.

- Checking: using AI tools to proofread work.

Submission Instructions:
The assessment must be submitted electronically on turitin submission links by 18:00 UK time on 05-03-2025. No paper copies are required and submission by emails will not be accepted in any situation.

- Your coursework will be given a zero mark if you do not submit a copy through Turnitin. Please take care to ensure that you have fully submitted your work.
- Please ensure that you have submitted your work using the correct file format, unreadable files will receive a mark of zero. The Faculty accepts Microsoft Office and PDF documents, unless otherwise advised by the module leader.
- All work submitted after the submission deadline without a valid and approved reason (see below) will be given a mark of zero.
- You MUST NOT use AI tools to generate your assignment main content for you. You may use AI to just get better clarity of the concepts or locating sources. You should not produce your content and COPY and PASTE in your assignment. Any violation, will be referred to Academic conduct Office (ACO).
- The University wants you to do your best. However, we know that sometimes events happen which mean that you can’t submit your coursework by the deadline – these events should be beyond your control and not easy to predict. If this happens, you can apply for an extension to your deadline for up to two weeks, or if you need longer, you can apply for a deferral, which takes you to the next assessment period (for example, to the resit period following the main Assessment Boards).
