The Situation and Your Role In It
You have been hired for the position of Assistant Manager for Work ‘N Suds, a local laundromat
in Gaithersburg, Maryland.
Work ‘N Suds maintains a robust business. While the business began as a small local
laundromat, it has now become a popular meeting and work-from-home space. The reason for
this emergence is a unique concept that Work ‘N Suds features. At Work ‘N Suds, customers
can work in pleasant office spaces while washing their clothes. This concept sets Work ‘N
Suds apart from other laundromats in the area.
Other laundromats are unequipped for suitable remote work. They have small, uncomfortable
benches that customers can sit on while waiting for their laundry to finish. Essentially no table or
desk space is available for customers to work on a laptop. Moreover, the noise from the laundry
machines and dryers makes it all but impossible to work in the area. All other laundromats
require customers to put their laundry into a washer and either find another place in the
neighborhood to work or wait in the laundromat for 45 minutes or more while their clothes finish
washing. Then the customer has to move the laundry to a dryer, wait another 30 minutes or so for
the drying to finish, and then take the clothes and return home.
This is not the case at Work ‘N Suds. At Work ‘N Suds, customers can put their laundry into a
washer and then proceed to another section of the laundromat that is separate from the washing
area. This area features state-of-the-art desks and office chairs, numerous electrical outlets,
robust wi-fi, and a coffee bar complete with baristas and a range of coffee drinks. In addition,
five public desktop computers are available in different kiosks throughout the office area.

Furthermore, customers can download a Work ‘N Suds app that alerts them when their laundry is
finished, signaling them that they can now proceed back to the laundromat section and move
their laundry to a dryer.
Moreover, the office space features solid walls that block out the noise from the laundromat
section. Customers can work in a quiet environment while they wait for their clothes to be
washed.
Overall, Work ‘N Suds is equipped to allow serious remote work while customers wash and dry
their laundry.
